Global Family Project supports families by providing jobs in developing nations.

So far, we have done this by funding computer input centers in South and Central Asia, where employees are paid to digitize rare books. This brings together two needs: the need to provide meaningful jobs to people who have few other opportunities, and the need to preserve the disappearing ancient texts of India and Tibet. For twenty years our partner organization, the Asian Classics Input Project, has created numerous jobs for people in need — mainly women — and made it possible for them to support their families and educate their children.

We believe the world is full of similar opportunities, and we are currently looking into other ways to create jobs where they are most needed (not just in South Asia). We take our inspiration from Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, who is gradually transforming Bangladesh from the bottom up by providing micro-loans to the poor. While our approach may differ, we agree that the best way to help people is with jobs rather than handouts, and we share his dream of creating a better world.
